About the Department

The Department of Malayalam at Government College Malappuram has a rich history that dates back to the establishment of the college itself. Government College Malappuram was established in the year 1972, and the Department of Malayalam was one of the earliest departments to be started at the college. The department has played a significant role in promoting the study and research of Malayalam language and literature in the region. Over the years, the department has produced many eminent scholars and writers who have contributed significantly to the field of Malayalam literature. Since 1981, The department offers undergraduate courses in Malayalam language and literature, and it has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are dedicated to teaching and research. The faculty members have published many research papers and articles in journals, and they have also authored books and monographs on various aspects of Malayalam literature. The department also organises various academic and cultural events throughout the year, including seminars, workshops and cultural festivals, to promote the study and appreciation of Malayalam language and literature. In recent years, the department has also embraced technology and has started offering webinars to reach out to a wider audience. Faculty: The department has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are experts in the field of Malayalam language and literature. The faculty members are responsible for teaching and research, and they are actively involved in academic and cultural activities related to the field..

BA Malayalam

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Malayalam is an undergraduate program offered by Government College Malappuram. This program started in 1981. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Malayalam language and literature. The duration of the BA Malayalam program is three years, and it is divided into six semesters. The program is structured to include core courses, complimentary courses and elective courses, which provide students with a broad understanding of the Malayalam language and literature. Complimentary Courses in the programme are  : 1. കേരളപഠനം (Kerala studies), 2. സംസ്കൃതം (Sanskrit). The  Elective Courses are1. മാധ്യമ പഠനം (Media studies),  2. സ്ത്രീ പഠനങ്ങൾ (Women’s studies)

Overall, the BA Malayalam program at Government College Malappuram provides students with a comprehensive understanding of Malayalam language and literature. The program is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue a career in fields such as education, media, journalism, publishing, and more.
