Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)
Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) is a popular undergraduate degree program that focuses on providing students with a strong foundation in accounting, finance, economics, and business management. The program is designed to develop the analytical, quantitative, and communication skills needed to succeed in the business world. The B.Com program provides a platform for students to learn practical skills through industry visits and project works. Upon completion of the program, graduates can pursue careers in various sectors such as banking, finance, accounting, taxation, auditing, marketing, and human resources. The B.Com program provides a strong foundation for further academic pursuits such as an MBA, CA, or CFA. It also provides opportunities for students to pursue research and academic careers in the field of commerce.
B.Com programme was started in the college in the year 1973. The duration of the B.Com programme of study is three academic years with six semesters. Total number of courses (other than audit courses) for the whole B.Com Programme is 31. It is divided in to courses namely: Common courses, Core courses, Complementary courses and Open courses. During the course of study every B.Com student shall undergo 10 Common courses, 4 Complementary courses, 16 Core courses and 1 Open course. A student is required to acquire a minimum of 140 credits for the completion of the B.Com programme, of which 120 credits are to be acquired from class room study and shall only be counted for SGPA and CGPA. Remaining 20 credits are to be acquired from audit courses and social work which shall not be counted for SGPA and CGPA. Out of the 120 credits, 38 credits shall be from common courses, 63 credits for core courses, 16 credits for complementary courses, 2 credits for project/corresponding paper and 3 credits for the open course. Core courses in the area of specialization for the programme are Finance.
Admission
Admission to the BCom programme is conducted through Under Graduate Centralised Admission Process (UG CAP) of the Calicut University. Online registration for the admission starts in the month of May every year through the Admission of Portal of Directorate of Admission(DoA) of Calicut University. Admission to the programme is conducted in the college during the months July and August on the basis of the allotment done by the University
Eligibility for admission
Any candidate who has passed the Plus Two of the Higher Secondary Board of Kerala or Pre Degree of Calicut University or that of any other University or Boardof Examinations in any state recognized as equivalent to the Plus Two of the Higher Secondary Board in Kerala, with not less than 45% marks in aggregate is eligible for admission, However, SC/ST, OBC and other eligible communities shall be given relaxation as per University rules
