Profile
The Department of History is one of the major Departments in the govt. College Malappuram. The Department was established in 1973 when it offered Pre Degree Course. But the same was discontinued in 1997 when the govt. decided to replace it with Higher Secondary courses. Since 1998 the Department started to offer BA in History (Provisional affiliation UO No GAI/D3/7097/97(2) dated 12.11.1998. Continuation of Provisional affiliation 2010-2011 UO No. GAI/G2/896/2006 dated 4.11.2011.) In 2018 the Department was upgraded as Post-Graduate Department. BA in History is a three-year programme with two semesters in each academic year and MA in History is a two-year programme with four semesters. At present eight well-qualified and dedicated faculties are working in the Department. Of them two are Doctors of Philosophy in History and the remaining are pursuing their research. The
Department promotes interactive method of learning with a special focus on history of India and the world. To foster the academic and other traits of students as well as faculties the Department organises a variety of programmes including seminars, lecture series, workshops, debates, panel discussions, training on local history writing and cultural activities. Also it conducts visits to important historical sites. The Department creates opportunities to identify aptitude of students and to tap them. To help the student set their goal the Department organizes coaching for UGC-JRF/NET, orientation for Civil Services and provides guidance for various job opportunities. As the Best Practice of the Department we have established a museum cum social science lab to collect and preserve various artifacts of historical importance. Also the Department has strong alumni who decorate many apex positions in the academic and non- academic organizations.

B.A.History
The Department of History started to offer BA in
History in 1998. It is a three-year programme with two semesters in each
academic year. At present BA programme has the strength of 192 students with
intake of 68 students every year. Students who have passed Higher Secondary or
courses equivalent can apply for the Programme through centralized admission process
of the University of Calicut. The programme is designed to provide students
with a comprehensive understanding in the history of India and the world. The
programme covers ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary periods of Indian
history, as well as global history West Asian Studies is complementary course
for first and fourth semesters and Historical Tourism is a complementary course
for second and third semesters. Overall, BA programme in History is an
excellent opportunity for students who are passionate about the discipline to
gain a comprehensive knowledge in the subject and prepare themselves for a
rewarding career.
M.A.History
The Department of History was upgraded as
Post-Graduate Department in the year 2018. Students who have completed UG
course can apply for MA in History through Centralized Admission Process of
University of Calciut. MA in History is a two-year programme with four semesters.
The programme has a sanctioned strength of 44 seats with intake of 22 students
each academic year. It is designed to provide students with a comprehensive
understanding of history and its significance in shaping the present. The
programme covers a wide range of topics including ancient, medieval, and modern
history. Also Environmental History is the elective course for the programme.
Under the programme the students are exposed to various theories, concepts, and
methodologies of historical research and are encouraged to engage in critical thinking,
analysis, and research. Upon the completion of the programme, the students can
pursue a variety of career options, including teaching, research, journalism,
civil services, museu curation, archival management, and more

Heritage Museum cum Social Science Lab
HERITAGE MUSEUM CUM SOCIAL SCIENCE LAB
The
Department of History has opened a Heritage Museum cum Social Science Lab to
collect and preserve artefacts of historical importance. Antique articles
preserved in the Museum include old appliances, tools, implements, coins and
various objects which throw light into life of previous generations. Also
representation of monuments and ancient scripts are displayed in the museum.
Altogether these give an opportunity for the students of history to have a
real-time experience on the past.
