The social history of Kerala during 1970’s is particularly characterized by the beginning of immigration to the Gulf states seeking better employment opportunities. The traditional Arabic studies which was prevailed and practiced in the erstwhile Malabar were more or less concentrated on religious instructions during those days. To make use of the employment possibilities in Gulf States the working knowledge of Modern Arabic has become an essential factor and hence the visionaries of education in Kerala during those days wished to start imparting instruction in Arabic along with the very inception of the College itself. This was behind the commencement of Department of Arabic in the year 1972 for the upliftment of the socially and educationally backward community in and around the east while Ernad Taluk.
VISION
The Department aspires to be one of the leading departments under the University of Calicut.
To Create bilingually efficient students who can interact in two international languages i.e. Arabic & English
To achieve highest career in the fields of teaching, typing, translation, interpretation and other functional skills.
To gain a holistic idea in the growth of Arabic Literature and culture updating the recent developments of the same.
To guide the students to cope with the ever changing international job markets especially in the Middle East countries.
To enable the students to acquire noble and humanitarian values in order to contribute the society with best outcomes.
To act as an instrument of change in the institution by facilitating the integration of various activities, monitoring the quality aspects.
To undertake quality related initiatives, consultancy and training programmes.
MISSION
The Department of Arabic, Govt. College, Malappuram aims at molding Arabic Language and specialists among the non native speakers. It produces academically qualified people with the functional skills in typing, translation and creative literary activities with a multi cultural and multi lingual dimension. The department is equipped with qualified, competent, friendly and capable of guiding with the most innovative and effective approaches.
