BA ECONOMICS
BA Programme in Economics was started in the year 1973 with History and Political Science as subsidiary/ Complementary papers. Now it is a three year programme comprising six semesters of six months. Total number of seats in BA economics in the academic year was 60 plus 6 additional seats to accommodate students belonging to Sports, Differently abled and category. The audit courses offered by the department are Environment Studies in the first semester, Disaster Management in the second semester, Consumer Protection in the third semester and Gender Studies in the fourth semester.
Career Prospects
A degree in Economics can provide a variety of job opportunities in nearly every industry, from local government and the sciences to finance and insurance. While some of these jobs might require additional certifications or education, others are available to those with a bachelor’s degree. A graduate in Economics can seek employment as Personal financial advisors, Economic consultants, Business reporters, Management consultants and financial analyst, market analyst, Economist, Market Research Analyst, Investment Banker, Data Analyst, Policy Analyst, Financial Planner, and Business Development Manager. B.A Economics graduates can apply for and get employed under various Kerala government posts which require only a bachelor’s degree through Kerala PSC exams. There are many higher study prospects for BA Economics graduates such as Master’s in Economics, MBA, PhD in economics after completing Master’s degree, a degree in law to provide legal counsel on economic and business matters such as corporate law or intellectual property law. Other profiles under BA Economics jobs include Customer Profit Analyst, Foreign Trade Analyst, Securities Analyst Trainee, Market Research Analyst, and Sales Analyst Portfolio Manager. Overall, a BA in Economics provides several higher education prospects, and graduates can choose from a broad range of career opportunities across various industries.
Admission Process
Admission to the BA Programme in Economics will start in the month of July every year. In order to apply for the programme the candidate has to register in the Calicut University Centralised Admission Process.
Eligibility
Any candidate who passed plus two of the higher secondary board of Kerala or equal examination of any other University or board of examination in any state recognised as equivalent to plus two of the higher secondary board in Kerala. However, the candidates who have studied Economics for the qualifying examination shall be given some weightage while calculating the index marks for admission.
